Core position control in the Mosquito method for fabricating polymer optical waveguides applying to 3-dimensional writing

(in English) In High-Performance Computers (HPCs), optical interconnect technologies have attractive features such as high speed and low power consumption data transmission. In particular, polymer optical waveguides have been expected to be utilized for the on-board optical interconnections. We have proposed the Mosquito method as a fabrication technique for graded-index (GI) circular core polymer optical waveguides which exhibit excellent optical properties. By using the Mosquito method, the wide varieties of core wiring patterns can be obtained. For the 3-dimensional wiring, the accurate core alignment in the vertical direction as well as the horizontal direction is highly required. In this study, the factors of the gap between the needle-tip height and the formed core height are examined when the polymer optical waveguides are fabricated by using the Mosquito method. Finally, we demonstrate that the cores are able to be formed accurately on the desired height.
