Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In disaster scenarios, the communication infrastructure is required to verify the safety of family and loved ones and share information. However, most of deployed communication infrastructure in the disaster area were destroyed in Japan’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Therefore, we adopt the Battery-enabled Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) which use the wireless multi-hop communication and thus easily deployable. Although WMNs can use the battery, there is not an efficient protocol for prolonging the battery lifetime. In this paper, we propose energy-efficient scheme consisting of a hand-shake aggregation and an energy leveling routing metric. Since most of packet’s destination is a gateway, which provides the connectivity with external networks, a number of data can be transmitted along with a single CSMA/CA hand-shake. In the other hands, a lot of packet concentrates on a path towards the gateway, we also propose a metric based on an inverse of residual energy for using a path where there is more residual energy. It is sown that the proposal scheme achieves lower the number of control packet and the energy consumption compared with the traditional CSMA/CA and shortest-hop metric.
