Many methods for a direction of arrival (DOA) estimation have been developed, including MUSIC and ESPRIT. Such methods are of a high resolution and have attracted considerable interest; however, they fail under a coherent signal environment. To handle this coherency problem, spatial smoothing preprocessing (SSP) was proposed. However, this reduces the effectiveness of the array aperture, and in a non-coherent signal environment, may lead to low DOA estimation accuracy. To overcome this problem, we propose a selective DOA estimation algorithm using information on the signal correlation, allowing us to select whether SSP is used adaptively according to the level of coherency. |
