Learning Method Using Eye-movements that Prompts Learners' Awareness of Metacognitive Monitoring Strategies
Ryo Ogino, Yuki Hayashi, Kazuhisa Seta (Osaka Prefecture Univ.) ET2016-60
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Metacognitive monitoring is essential for reading. We set up a research hypothesis that a part of metacognitive monitoring is reflected in eye-movements for reading. In this study, we designed a learning environment that requires metacognitive monitoring. We implemented a system to prompt learner’s awareness of metacognitive monitoring using eye-movements. We carried out a pilot experiment. The findings suggest that eye-movements encourage learner’s awareness of metacognitive monitoring strategies.
