Swallowing measurement using hetero-core optical fiber sensor for medical examination in home environment

(in English) In this study, we aim to realize a swallowing measurement at home environment using a hetero-core optical fiber sensor which has flexibility, light weight, and durability of electromagnetic induction. In this paper, the sensitive tape was fabricated using hetero-core optical fiber sensor embedded into medical film. The optical loss characteristics were obtained under extension and contraction of tape. In addition, swallowing measurements were performed for four subjects who are men and women between the twenties and forties. The results show that sensitive tape detects rising and falling motion of the thyroid cartilage following the swallowing. As a result, the unconstrained swallowing measurement was successfully achieved using the developed sensitive tape.
