A fluid parcel model is proposed taking into account the Rott equations of a thermoacoustic engine. The effect of non-equilibrium evaporation and condensation of water vapor is taken into account for a wet stack in a thermoacoustic engine. According to the numerical simulations, pV work done by a fluid parcel in a wet stack is larger than that in a dry stack for the traveling-wave thermoacoustic engine. This is due to the larger volume change of a fluid parcel in a wet stack caused by evaporation and condensation of water vapor. On the other hand, for the standing-wave thermoacoustic engine, pV work done by a fluid parcel in a wet stack could be smaller than that in a dry stack at some radius of a stack. It is due to the smaller volume change of a fluid parcel in a wet stack in this case. For any case, the vapor pressure inside a fluid parcel is almost identical to the saturated vapor pressure at the wet stack. A fluid parcel drifts to the higher temperature side in a traveling-wave engine and to the lower temperature side in a standing-wave engine. |
