Experimental equipment including a contact opening apparatus and capacitors for high-current break arcs is reported. The break arcs are generated in a 48VDC/250A resistive circuit using the equipment. A main circuit of the experimental equipment consists of a DC power supply, a current limiting resistor, capacitors, a contactor, load resistors, horizontally-opposed electrical contacts, and a resistor to measure circuit current. The current flowing in the circuit is supplied by the capacitors. The contacts are separated immediately after closing the contactor. Timing of the closing the contactor and separating the contacts are precisely controlled by a microcomputer. Some experimental results are shown for break operations at the current of 90A-270A using the equipment. |
