This work explored the molecular orientation of two types of polyimide thin films by vapor deposition polymerization. Semi-aromatic polyimide composed of pyromellitic dianhydride and 1,12-diaminododecane had crystallinity with molecular chain oriented perpendicular to the substrate. Aromatic polyimide composed of 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride and 5,4’-diamino-2-phenylbenzimidazole was amorphous with molecular chain oriented parallel to the substrate. These results indicated that linear monomers have possibility of generating oriented polyimide by vapor deposition polymerization. |
