Estimation of finger contact point based on the arrival time difference of the wave

(in English) Contact position between an object and a finger is valuable for a user interface, estimation of a finger manipulation and human action analysis. The authors proposed a system for estimating the contact position of a finger with the arrival time difference of the measured wave using 3-axis accelerometer. In this paper, the authors measured the arrival time difference from different measured positions in various conditions of contact points using accelerometer and stepping motor. The result of the experiment showed that the arrival time difference changed as the distance increased and it is suggested that the system can measure the contact position quantitatively. The result of the arrival time difference showed that the surface wave appeared in the lateral axis and the longitudinal wave appeared in the vertical axis.
