In 5th generation mobile communication system (5G), the active phased array antenna (APAA) have attracted attention to realize the Massive MIMO by the beamforming. Since the accuracies of phase control and amplitude control are important for the beamforming, the phase shifter (PS) and the variable gain amplifier (VGA) with high accuracy are required. Also the integration of PS and VGA are required to minimize the size of APAA in 5G system. This paper proposes the 0.25dB step VGA using a common gate current steering topology with tail current control, and shows the measured results of 15GHz 4-channel Transmit/Receive RF Core-Chip with phase and amplitude control. |
