Success Prioritized Random Access Protocol -- Beyond 1/e in Slotted ALOHA --
Daisuke Umehara (Kyoto Inst. of Tech.) CQ2016-71
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF), the positive backoff counter is invariant just after DCF interframe space (DIFS) when a backoff STA determines the channel to be busy. This procedure makes the success STA obtain a contention-free opportunity to transmit the next data frame with a certain probability. The priority of success STA is higher as decreasing the initial contention window and it provides us to enhance the throughput and reduce the frame discard rate. By applying the concept of success priority to develop the backoff distribution for slotted ALOHA, we obtain throughput beyond the upper limit of 1/e for backoff with geometric distribution.
