Airguns used for seismic survey generate intense and low-frequency impulse sound, which could propagate long-range and injure audio system or disturb behavior of marine mammals. In this paper, we calculated long-range propagation of airgun sounds in in the context of realistic environmental parameters (sound speed profiles, ocean-bottom topography, ocean-bottom sediments) and consider future of mitigation measures based on threshold levels for marine mammals by “DRAFT Guidance for Assessing the Effects of Anthropogenic Sound on Marine Mammal Hearing.” |
