Speech intelligibility under long-path echoes by using four-continuous-words simulating emergency mass-notification messages

(in English) This study seeks to lay the basis for content guideline suitable for outdoors public address systems. We have focused on the effect of inserting pauses between the words in a speech signal. In this study, speech materials were modeled based on actual sentences used in emergency notifications given via the Japanese mass-notification system, J-Alert. By using this model, the effects of word familiarity and inserting pauses on word intelligibility under long-path echo were examined. The results of the experiments suggest that speech signals can be robustly understood despite long-path echoes by using adequate inter-word pauses.
