The Anaerobic Threshold (AT) determination experimental system and the movement of ventilation expire in limited respiration

(in English) Anaerobic Threshold (AT) is defined to be the maximum exercise workload in some range in which we can do exercise without onset of the 1st blood lactate accumulation during a gradual incremental workload exercise. AT is widely used as an index of the safe and effective exercise workload in exercise therapy. To determine the AT, a blood lactate measurement by blood sampling or a ventilation measurement is needed. The blood sampling can only be performed by a medical licensed doctor or nurse, and a ventilation measurement requires a very expensive device. The purpose of this study is to develop a procedure to determine the AT using the vital signals such as the electrocardiogram (ECG), the Electromyogram (EMG) and breathing curved line (BCL). Based on the results of preliminary experiment, the BCL was focused on the index for AT determination in this study.
AT determination using the BCL can be summarized as follows:
1) AT could be determined by the following movement in the gradual incremental workload exercise: the maximum amplitude of frequency in the power spectrums of the BCL shifted from the low frequency component range to the high frequency range beyond the exercise workload of the AT level.
2) Furthermore, AT could be determined by the following movement in the controlled respiratory frequency of 27-28 [breaths per min]: the power in the frequency equivalent to 27-28 [breaths per min] increased immediately after the AT level was exceeded in the gradual incremental workload exercise.
