A Study on Signal Separation with Independent Component Analysis for Short Message of BLE

(in English) This paper proposes a signal separation scheme with the aid of independent component analysis (ICA) that is customized for short message of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) systems. ICA plays a vital role to establish spatial division multiple access (SDMA) without channel state information captured by orthogonal pilot sequences. In BLE format, the orthogonal sequences are not assigned. Therefore, ICA is an important tool for BLE SDMA. Although an accurate covariance matrix of the received signal has to be calculated before ICA operation, the calculation is not suitable in BLE systems for shortness of a BLE packet. To deal with the problem, we apply oversampling whose sampling rate is higher than the symbol rate to get a large number of samples. As another issue of ICA, phase ambiguity remains in the separated signals. In this paper, we resolve such phase ambiguity by differential detection. Moreover, we propose a differential detection using pseudo-inverse matrix filtering for raking up oversampled signals. In terms of bit error rate (BER) performances, computer simulations validate the proposed differential detection for the short packet of BLE.
