Performance Evaluation of an Overhead-Reduced Channel Estimation Sequences for mmWave Short-Range MIMO

(in English) A promising solution to the need for higher rates in wireless data transmission is millimeter-wave (mmWave) short-range MIMO (SR-MIMO) wireless communications, which aims to provide 100 Gbps transmission for close proximity distances. To achieve this aim, it is essential to redesign the functional modules of existing wireless communication systems by introducing new concepts. In this paper, we revisit the channel estimation sequence (CES) design issue by taking unique issues of mmWave SR-MIMO wireless communication into consideration. We first clarify the unique channel estimation features of wireless systems and explore the needs and possibilities for reducing CES length. Then, we evaluate an overhead-reducing CES design method that exploits the property of the circulant matrix to achieve the same aim. This method was discussed in our previous work and extended in the current work. The method’s performance is evaluated by using an experimentally obtained short-range MIMO channel environment.
