This paper explores how best to exploit a magnetic-resonance wireless power transfer system once given. We theoretically find a solution to the maximum power transfer efficiency by employing trigonometric functions and phasor graphics. Showing an equivalent circuit of the system, we formulate the voltage and current behaviors. Capacitors added in series compensate the reactance of the coupling coils. This makes the input impedance positive real. Under this condition, the port voltages as well as currents become orthogonal between input and output. We next adjust the load resistance so as to maximize the power transfer efficiency. An angular parameter is introduced to translate the optimum load, input-to-output voltage ratio, and maximum efficiency into their elegant formulas. We finally show a phasor chart that explains those relationship in a lucid way. |
