Recent progress of wireless technologies has brought many new models of rectenna. In this paper, a rectenna employing a bow-tie antenna is experimentally evaluated. A wideband and wide reception angle rectenna is expected by using a bow-tie antenna because the bow-tie antennas have a wideband and omnidirectional characteristics. However, the antenna impedance of the bow-tie antenna is not high enough to obtain good RF-to-DC conversion. Then the use of the second resonant frequency is considered. Parametric studies of a bow-tie antenna are conducted by using electromagnetic simulation and two types of bow-tie rectennas are fabricated based on the antenna design for 5.8 GHz. The prototype rectennas are experimentally evaluated and these are also discussed by comparing to a differential rectenna which employs two microstrip antennas. |
