Fundamental Experiment on Passive Bistatic Radar Imaging using TV broadcasting wave

(in English) By using digital television broadcasting radio source, a passive bistatic radar system used to image the target at near range is developed. First, the time delay between the reflected signal from the target and the direct signal from the radio source is measured. Thereby, the position of the target corresponding to the antenna can be determined by the cross-correlation of the reflected signal and the direct signal. Then, experiments were carried out by set a 1m×2m metal plate at the distance of 2m and 10m. Results show that the developed passive radar system can be utilized for the application of target detection. At last, to improve the imaging accuracy of target, the advanced SAR imaging method is also employed. Moreover, the frequency band of digital television broadcasting radio source at around 500MHz is suitable for ground penetrating radar (GPR), which means that it is possible to use this passive technology for GPR in the future.
