Analysis of 3D Periodic Network Structures of Liver Bile Canaliculus in CLSM Images

(in English) The objective of this research is to develop a method for analyzing 3D
graph structures of bile canaliculus networks in the hepatic lobules
using confocal microscope images, where each edge of the graphs
corresponds to each bile canaliculus and each node corresponds to an
end point or to a bifurcation of the bile canaliculi. Confocal
microscope images of the hepatic lobules are useful for observing the
3D structures but one needs to explicitly describe the graph
structures of the bile canaliculi captured in the images in order for
the analysis. For the explicit description, the proposed method
firstly extracts center points, end points and bifurcations of the
bile canaliculi and then integrates them into a graph of which edges
are composed of the extracted center points and nodes are composed of
the end points and of the bifurcations. A key technique of the
accurate integration is to estimate the degree of each node before
connecting the extracted center points into edges. In this
presentation, the authors report some results of the structure
analysis of bile canaliculus.
