Underwater Acoustic OFDM Communication Using Data Selective Rake Reception in Multipath Environment beyond Guard Interval

(in English) Recent underwater acoustic communication has adopted OFDM for countermeasure of multipath. If a delay spread of multipath is within a guard interval (GI), frequency domain equalization (FDE) is effective in compensating channel distortion. However, very long delay waves should be considered when reflected waves arrive from water surfaces, water bottoms, and obstacles in shallow sea environment. A long GI is disadvantageous in terms of transmission rate and communication response.This report describes underwater acoustic OFDM communication that can cope with multipath environment beyond guard interval. Inter-block interference (IBI) is always present in the aforementioned environment. Inter-carrier interference (ICI) occurring at the same time as IBI becomes a major disturbance for OFDM demodulation.Data selective rake reception (DSRake) that cuts out a received signal by time-domain shifting FFT windows is effective in reducing ICI. This effectiveness is discussed in view of distribution of received signals and simulation.
