Surface Reflection and Scattering Measurements in the Terahertz Band

Measurement results on the surface scattering and reflections in the THz band from 0.1 THz to approximately 4 THz are reported. The measurements focused on the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) characteristics of the THz channels through reflected paths and diffuse scattering field. The measurements were made by THz-time domain spectroscopy for five different materials: aluminium, glass, plastic, hardboard, and concrete. The results showed that the directly reflected paths can be used for point-to-point communications in the THz band. The diffuse scattered paths are very weak, however, could be utilized in very specific conditions, such as at low distances for rather rough surfaces. |
