High-accuracy network measurement technology to support stable transmission of uncompressed ultra-high-definition live-streaming videos

(in English) To enable stable video streaming over networks on the order of several gigabits per second (Gbps), transmission status was monitored in real-time by using high-accuracy network measurement technology. This paper presents two solutions, PRESTA 10G technology and an 8K video traffic meter. PRESTA 10G is a high-accuracy network measurement system with capturing and generating functions that can monitor networks at the microsecond level. The 8K video traffic meter monitors eight 10 Gbps lines simultaneously and displays usage with a visual representation of the actual transmission status. During the Sapporo Snow Festival Verification Test Event, hosted by NICT in February 2015, and Interop Tokyo, held in June 2015, we used the 100 Gbps line of JGN-X to store and distribute ultra-high-definition (UHD), uncompressed 8K (7680 × 4320 pixels) videos at 25.6 Gbps. In these experiments, we evaluated the performance of the two high-accuracy network measurement solutions.
