We propose a new compound presentation system (Prop-Tactile display) to make it easier for visually impaired people to rapidly and accurately understand two-dimensional information. The system has two additional presentation methods on a conventional tactile pin-display, one is a local vibration presentation method and the other a powered mechanical leading method. This time, we have developed a practical device of Prop-Tactile display that is constructed in commercial tactile display and cheap force feedback device. The practical Prop-Tactile display provide the function that user can freely choose a divided set route of a powered mechanical leading. Then we perform experiment using the practical Prop-Tactile display to evaluated the effect of the Prop-Tactile presentation methods compared with the case of the tactile pin-display only or voice explanation. In the experiment, easiness of imagination of the figure and grasping the positional relation between the objects is subjectively evaluated using the figure of teaching materials. The subjective evaluation result shows that the evaluation values for the addition of the powered mechanical leading presentation or the local vibration presentation are statistically higher than the static pin-display presentation only. These results clearly suggest the possibility that the proposed Prop-Tactile display is effective for visually-impaired people to understand figures, and for the education use. |
