Latent Workload Estimation of Virtul Firewall

(in English) NFV(Network Functions Virtualization)has been attracting attention as a technology realizing software-based functions on commodity hardware, which leads to cost savings and high functionality. However due to the software processing of network functions, the performance of VNF(Virtualized Network Functions)is degraded and it depends on the type of VNFs and the configuration of VNF applications. Therefore to realize the practical NFV system, it is important to grasp the accurate workload of VNF applications and to manage the VNF performance. This paper focuses on analysis of virtual firewall as a representative VNF and we propose an estimation method to grasp the latent workload of the virtual firewall by using the number of entries in ACL(Access Control List) and the traffic load to each entry. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods by experiments.
