Preparation of Adhesive Acrylic Polymer Thin Films by Ion-assisted Vapor Deposition Polymerization

(in English) Thin films of 4-hydroxybutyl acrylate glycidylether (4HBAGE) and 4-hydroxybutyl acrylate (4HBA) were obtained on glass and polyimide (PI) substrates by an ion-assisted vapor deposition method. It was observed that the irradiation by Ar ions during vapor deposition not only induces vinyl polymerization of 4HBAGE and 4HBA monomers, but also improves mechanical stability and surface flatness. The 4HBAGE layer was effective in improving adhesion strength between the substrates and vapor-deposited films of Cu. Moreover, adhesion was observed between surfaces deposited with 4HBAGE/4HBAGE or 4HBAGE/4HBA, suggesting that these layers can function as nano-adhesive layers.
