An application-level estimation for TCP throughput based on compound measurement

(in English) When we calculate the TCP throughput, vast data is transferred from the sender to the receiver and the TCP throughput is calculated by using the data size and the tranfering time. However, in case that the divided data is intermittently transferred such as live video streaming, the calculated TCP throughput has an error because the actual transferring time is unobservable on the application layer. To solve this problem, the method that calculates the TCP throughput theoretical by using network information such as RTT or packet loss rate is proposed. Our proposed method calculates the TCP throughput by estimating the existing range of the true TCP throughput on the basis of application-level observable network information. An evaluation experiment showed that our proposed method achieved a higher accuracy compared with a conventional method on a commercial LTE network.
