FFT based High-efficient Receiver for FSK Packet Transmission Systems

(in English) This report proposes a high-efficient receiver using the fast Fourier transform (FFT) which is available for conventional frequency shit keying (FSK) packet transmission systems.In the field of wireless machine-to machine (M2M) communication systems such as wireless smart utility network (Wi-SUN), FSK and Gaussian filtered FSK (GFSK) have been widely used because of its low-power consumption, which allows many sensors and meters to operate without battery maintenances for long period.On the other hand, in the base station it is expected that signal reception quality should be improved by digital signal processing with high complexity. In this report, a high-efficient symbol decision scheme and a symbol synchronization scheme using the power spectrum obtained by the FFT of the received signal in each symbol duration are proposed and their effectiveness and usability are shown by the computer simulations.With the proposed symbol decision scheme the soft decision value can be output that makes the bit error rate (BER) performance around 6.2 dB better than that of the conventional systems.Moreover, the symbol synchronization point can be detected even within eight times of symbol duration without deterioration of the packet error rate (PER) performance using the proposed symbol synchronization scheme.
