[Invited Talk] Metamaterials for Antenna Applications -- Wideband Left-Handed Metamaterial: Analysis, Modelling, and Testing for Antenna Gain Enhancement --

(in English) Low efficiency and volumetric expansion have limited the applicability of conventional array technique for high-gain antennas. In this context, we introduce the use of artificially engineered materials, the so-called metamaterials, to improve the antenna performance in term of gain and volumetric reduction. A novel Wide-band Left-Handed Metamaterial (WBLHM) unit-cell is proposed and presented in this paper. The characteristics of WBLHM are demonstrated on a 2.4 GHz of wideband circularly polarized patch antenna (from 5 GHz to 7.4 GHz) to improve antenna gain while its AR and bandwidth are maintained. By applying this planar WBLHM substrate, the maximum gain of 11.58 dBi is obtained. A WBLHM prototype has been designed and fabricated.
