The dynamics of the neuronal cells and an astrocyte during the generation of the carbachol-induced beta oscillation in rat hippocampal slices.

(in English) Carbachol,a cholinergic agent induces bursts of beta oscillations occur in rat hippocampal slices. The duration of the bursts is around 10 seconds and the inter-burst interval is a few tens of seconds. Recently one of the glial cells an astrocyte is involved in the generation of the epileptic bursts the pathological rhyhtm. The astrocytes lengthen the duration of the burst in the second order. So, the astrocytes may help the generation of the carbcahol-induced beta oscillation. We have proposed the minimal network model of a rat hippocampal slices to simulate the burst. The network is composed of a pyramidal cell (Pinsky-Rinzel model), an interneuron (Hodgkin-Huxley model) and an astrocyte (Li-Rinzel model). The model reproduced the bursts of the beta oscillation observed in the experiments, which have the duration of ten seconds and the long inter-burst interval in a few tens of seconds. Three compponents, a pyramidal cell, an interneuron, and an astrocyte are necessary to induce the carbachol-induced bursts.
