Age dependence of carotid pulse wave measured by a piezoelectric transducer

(in English) Pulse wave evaluation is suitable for screening arteriosclerosis. Pulse wave is composed of two displacement waveforms: incident and reflected waves. We have proposed a method to extract the reflected wave from the pulse wave at the left common carotid artery. There was a good correlation between the age and the maximum amplitude of the reflected wave. In this study, we focused on the characteristic pulse wave of elderly people from 70s to 90s. We could separate reflected wave from pulse wave of these elderly people. However, we also found the elderly subjects from cardiovascular disease who have the smaller maximum amplitudes of the reflected wave like younger subjects.
