Design of a rate adaptation scheme by predicting channel state for wireless video inspection of sewer pipes using drifting monitoring nodes

(in English) In Japan, there are large amount of aged sewer pipes which tend to cause cave-in accidents.
To prevent such accidents, maintenance and inspection for sewer pipes is urgently needed.
However, existing inspection methods are inappropriate for inspecting such sewer pipes.
We have already proposed a sewer inspection system using multiple drifting monitoring nodes.
In this system, monitoring nodes record the video of the inside of a sewer pipe when they drift in the pipe.
They send the recorded video to multiple access point (AP) placed at manholes.
To complete transmission the video recorded between APs.
During the short period they can connect an AP, monitoring nodes should achieve high throughput.
In this paper, we discuss suitable rate adaptation methods and cooperative operation of monitoring nodes based on the results of experiments of data transmission using IEEE802.11 a and g in a 200mm-diameter experimental underground pipe.
