[Invited Talk] The key supports for developing new drugs and medical devices in Japan
Yutaka Natsumeda (KSLION) MICT2015-41
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Although Japan is far behind USA or EU countries in developing new drugs and innovative medical devices, it would not be difficult to catch up and outrun. The key is to find and collaborate with the expert partners in the areas from preclinical studies and clinical trials to its practical use towards the next-generation medical care. In 2015 Dr. Satoshi Omura received Nobel Prize with his discovery of avermectin, anti-parasitic substance. In order to shed on light on the weak points and the necessary key supports in Japan, it would be informative to overview how avermectin was developed, modified to ivermectin and successfully contributed to the progress in medical care.
