2-Step Adaptive Equalization Scheme Based on Spectrum Monitoring implemented in Frequency-Domain Equalizer

(in English) Adaptive equalization techniques for mitigation of transmission impairments, such as spectrum narrowing in ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer), are key to enable effective operation of flexible networks, using technologies like adaptive modulation or switching. In this paper, we propose a 2-step adaptive equalization scheme for Frequency-Domain Equalization combining coarse equalization based on spectrum monitoring independently of the modulation format and precise equalization with an off-chip sub-DSP. We demonstrate that the proposed adaptation scheme achieves robust synchronization and Q-factor improvement for various numbers of ROADM node. We report experimental verification of 2.8 dB Q-factor improvement with 6-stage ROADM node.
