Demonstration of automatic FEC switching based on adaptive FEC control for optical access network

(in English) Next generation optical access network require high efficiency of bandwidth utilization. We proposed adaptive FEC control that can set optimal FEC based on quality of transmission of each ONUs. The challenges to realize adaptive FEC control in optical access network are quick FEC on/off switching operation, determination of adequate FEC, and frame-lossless FEC on/off switching operation. This paper describes proposal and demonstration of adoptive FEC control in optical access network. Successful operation of the adaptive FEC control in downstream and upstream based on BERs of each ONU was demonstrated using a WDM/TDM-PON prototype.
