Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The development of the great alar cartilage, the nasal septum, and the anterior nasal spine (ANS) contribute to morphogenesis of human nose. Among them, the ANS is specific structure for humans, but however, few reports have referred to the ANS. Human fetal specimens stored at Congenital anomaly research center of Kyoto University were used for this study, and 32 specimens ranging from 22 to 86 mm in crown-ramp-length (CRL) were selected suitable in size for the imaging with 7 Tesla preclinical magnetic resonance (MR) system. They were analyzed in mid-sagittal plane with cephalometric analysis, but it was not sufficient to understand the allometic shape change of nasal septum. Therefore, we have applied geometric morphometrics to the analysis. Our data indicates that nasal septum growth goes mainly forward and causes the ANS development simultaneously during early fetal period in humans.
