Automatic Blumensaat's line detection method using Pseudo Lateral Radiograph for the Computer-aided Surgical Planning of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

(in English) Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury causes knee joint instability, and affects on sports performance. Therefore, ACL reconstruction is essential to keep their high performance and to prevent osteoarthrosis. It is well known that the outcome of ACL reconstruction is strongly related to the placemen and orientation of the bone tunnel. We have proposed a computer-aided surgical planning system. The system evaluates the bone tunnel placement and orientation using magnetic resonance (MR) image, and Quadrant method determines the bone tunnel placement on the pseudo lateral radiograph synthesized from MRI. The system manually determines Blumensaat’s line which the Quadrant method requires. This paper proposes the method to determine the Blumensaat’s line on the pseudo lateral radiograph. The experimental results showed that the method successfully determined Blumensaat’s line.
