A microwave bandpass filter having a generalized Chebyshev function characteristic can generate transmission zeros at arbitrary frequencies in stopbands. Thus, it is possible to realize a symmetric or asymmetric frequency response with respect to the center frequency of passband. As such versatility can be more attractive than conventional characteristic functions, we have proposed a fully canonical Cul-de-Sac coupling microstrip filter to provide a generalized Chebyshev function with a single-layer planar filter structure. However, a direct source/load(S/L) coupling appearing in the filter, which is greater than a desired value obtained by the circuit synthesis, may degrade stopband responses. In this paper, we propose a new fully canonical Cul-de-Sac coupling filter structure that can suppress the direct S/L coupling by using a novel excitation structure for resonators. The proposed filter structure allows us to adjust the direct S/L coupling, thereby realizing fully canonical filters having the maximum number of transmission zeros. To show the effectiveness, we have designed three fourth-order bandpass filters with four transmission zeros located at symmetric or asymmetric frequency positions with respect to the same passband response. |
