Thin films of lithium-ion-exchanged-montmorillonite (Li-MMT) nanosheets were prepared and their ionic conductivities were examined. The dispersion of Li-MMT nanosheets was prepared by exfoliating Li-MMT powders. A couple of dispersions were prepared of Li-MMT nanosheets with different size by centrifugal separation. Li-MMT thin films were deposited onto substrates by spin-coating the dispersion of Li-MMT nanosheets. The lithium ion conductivities at 30 °C in the directions parallel and perpendicular to the film plane (σ⊥, σ//) were determined for the films. The value of σ// was in the order of 10-2 S cm-1, and it was almost independent on the nanosheet size. The value of σ⊥ was in the order of 10-6 S cm-1, and it increased with a decrease in the nanosheet size. We determined the ionic conduction mechanism by analyzing these results. |
