How to evaluate the English pronunciation learning by lip movement

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In a previous study, we investigated utterance recognition by focusing on lip movements, which is one aspect of multimodal voice recognition systems. In addition, we are investigating utterance training based on lip movements to further develop this area of research because we assume that the utterance recognition rate will improve with training. The present study is an examination of English pronunciation training comparing the English teacher’s lip movements with those of the English pronunciation learner. For the English pronunciation learner, improving their English pronunciation is a great incentive to study English. Therefore, we propose an objective method of evaluation of English pronunciation to be used in addition to subjective evaluation.
