| (in English) | Recently, many sleep researchers are interested in the sleep function of memory. For example, it has been reported that sleep after training improve motor skill in the human research. In this study, we trained rats in skilled reaching, and measured sleep EEG in the motor cortex after the training to reveal the sleep mechanism of improving motor skill. We found that sleep slow-wave EEG of the trained side was increased relative to the untrained side for 2 h after the training. These results suggest that the motor learning influences certain characteristics of sleep. Investigation of effect of sleep deprivation on sleep dependent motor skill improvement is also required to clarify the mechanism of it. For this purpose, automated sleep deprivation apparatus was developed and validated. The apparatus decreased NREM sleep by about 50 % and inhibited REM sleep. | |
