A simple robust DNS cache against the cache poisoning attacks
Daisuke Yuto, Yukiji Yamauchi (OIT) IN2015-68
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Numerous vulnerabilities have been found to the DNS systems and protocols especially since the method of “Kaminsky Attack”, an effective way for DNS cache poisoning, has been well known. Multiple solutions has proposed and implemented against the DNS cache poisoning attacks so far.
This paper deals with yet another method to reduce the possibility of cache poisonings including the Kaminsky Attacks. It is simple enough that the cache-server DOES memorizes the resolved DNS records, but does NOT use the record as the active cached data for the first time. Any DNS records resolved multiple times and the resolved data are consistent each other, are used as active cached data. System compatibility, server CPU loads, and DNS traffic considerations are also discussed.
Keywords DNS, DNS cache poisoning.
