A Study on LLR Updating in an LDPC Coded Massive MIMO System with Belief Propagation

(in English) A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is possible to improve the throughput performance by increasing the number of both transmit and receive antennas.
However, detecting signals of an order of hundreds is generally difficult in terms of computational complexity in fully-massive MIMO systems.
To solve this problem, a use of belief propagation has been recently proposed and the good performances have been shown in QPSK-modulated massive MIMO systems.
The belief propagation algorithm is also widely used for LDPC decoding.
In this paper, we focus on the factor graph configuration.
Two kinds of graphs: bipartite and tripartite types are considered and those performance differences are evaluated.
The simulation results show that an LLR imbalance between LDPC check nodes and signal detection nodes prevents the convergence and that the LLR damping or limiting in the sum-product decoder can ease the problem.
