As the size of data and number of objects in web page have been increasing, the page load time also increases and it becomes more difficult to get a good web experience. The SPDY protocol was proposed to overcome the latency of page load time. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) recently approved the specification to promote WEB protocol as the HTTP/2 in RFC7540. HTTP/2 was deployed based on the technology of SPDY, which increases the speed of HTTP by parallelized multiple HTTP sessions. The conventional HTTP, i.e. HTTP/1.1 also utilizes parallelism among HTTP sessions to reduce the load time. Although both SPDY and HTTP/1.1 take the similar approach, they are different in utilization of TCP connection. The network QoS therefore seems to affect the performance differently. We evaluated the performance of HTTP/1.1 and SPDY for various network conditions and clarified the characteristics of both WEB protocols. |
