Proposal of Environment for Bicycle Travelling State Estimation based on Smartphone Embedded Sensors

(in English) Bicycles are ecological and economical transportation tools that never emit CO2. The final goal of this paper is a load-traffic condition sharing system among bicycle riders by using a smart-phone equiped on each bicycle. However, the smart-phone built-in sensors (Acceleration, Geomagnetism, and Angular-velocity) are inaccurate to detect the bicycle speed and the rudder angle. Thus, the authors' conventional study employed a specially-designed probe bicycle. This conventional approach is expensive for the real world application. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a new signal processing approach having three-layer structure. The sensing device of the proposed system is a smart-phone and the proposed approch cannot get the accurate rudder angle and bicycle speed. The proposed approach generates several basic behavior classes from the original sensor data : "acceleration," "right turn," "left turn," and "normal riding," etc. In the second process, the speed and radder angle are estimated roughly. Finally, in the third layer, the process selects the road status : "hazard," "normal riding," and "escapefrom the obstacles" etc. The experimental evaluation shows that the accuracy of the proposed approach is nearly equal to that of the conventional probe bicycle approach.
