A levitation transport using the flexural vibration mode of a cylindrical pipe and the resonance of its internal air column have been studied. The objective of this study is to form a strong sound field in a metal pipe and to apply it into the transportation of small materials. The formation of the strong sound filed in the pipe was tried by bringing wave numbers of non-axisymmetric vibration mode of the air column into the pipe and non-axisymmetric flexural vibration mode of the pipe close. By sound and structure coupled analysis by a finite element analysis, it was confirmed that a standing wave sound field was clearly formed in the pipe. As the non-axisymmetric flexural vibration mode of the pipe can be easily generated by exciting with at least two points on the side of the pipe, the side of the pipe end was excited at the resonance frequency of the vibration mode by multilayer piezoelectric actuators. The levitation of small objects near the node of the sound field and forming strong sound field of 143dB at pipe end were confirmed. |
