Near Real-Time Group Movement Detection Method Based on LTE Control Signals

(in English) The performances of a mobile network are affected by the movement of its users, which leads to the reallocation of network resources, inducing a delay in the communications as well as an increase of signaling traffic that can create a bottleneck in the network control plane. This phenomenon is intensified when large groups of users move together, for example users riding on a train, as base stations suddenly need to accommodate a lot of devices. In this paper, we propose a method based on the analysis of LTE control signals to detect the movement of groups of users in near real-time with a precision and recall exceeding 60% and 70%. This method could be used to gather signals originating from the same group of users in order to reduce the signaling load or to allocate resources in advance to reduce the delay of communications.
