Coverage Simulation of GBAS VDB above Runway Surface in Ishigaki Airport

(in English) GBAS is a new aircraft landing system which provides own aircraft position by using GNSS. In this system, VDB (VHF Data Broadcast) transmitter sends information for position correction and integrity to aircrafts. VDB of GBAS CAT-III should cover not only terminal airspace near an airport, but also runway surfaces in order that the GBAS supports autoland. ENRI (Electronic Navigation Research Institute) has developed the GBAS prototype and installed it at Ishigaki airport. Coverage measurement on the runway surface revealed that the received power did not meet the requirement at a part of the runway surface due to buildings. This report shows that the causes of deterioration were investigated by the propagation simulation using the ray-tracing method.
