A 60GHz WLAN coverage detection method for fast session transfer from microwave to millimeter wave by using a downward directed directional antenna

(in English) To solve the congestion of communication at microwave band, FST (fast session transfer) has been devised. While FST is an effective technology in order to establish a stable link with high speed, there is problem that power consumption is increased. This paper proposes a 60GHz WLAN coverage detection method for FST by using a downward directed directional antenna to reduce the power consumption of a battery operated mobile terminal. By obtaining the threshold value of the microwave band RSSI corresponding to the area boundary of the 60GHz-band communications, we detect the 60GHz band communication area by using only a microwave band. In addition, we performed the averaging procedure in consideration of the movement of the temporal location of the STA to suppress the influence of fading.
