White canes are either straight and long, or collapsible. Both types consist of a grip at the top, a shaft, and a tip at the bottom. The grip is normally made from rubber. The shaft is crafted from materials such as aluminum, glass fiber, or carbon fiber, and the tip is typically made from nylon. This construction allows information, in the form of vibrations, to be transmitted to the user. The purpose of this study is to consider the influence of collapsible cane’s joints on judging hardness of an object. We compared hardness sensitivity of an object tapped by strait cane and collapsible cane using magnitude estimation. The results showed no difference of both canes. |
